Chick Day

This last Saturday marked our second time going to "Chick Day" - an annual event put on by a local feed store that features hundreds of baby chics, a petting zoo, dogs, ducks and free hotdogs and pop.  AJ was napping during the time we planned on going, so Aaron stayed home with him and Addi  and I had our own special time.  She liked looking at the chics, but didn't want to hold them. She loved holding the bunnies and chi-weeneies though!  Her favorite part of the event was watching a dog get groomed - she's so funny!

6th Annual Sparks/Brandeberry Girl's Weekend

This last weekend marked the 6th annual Sparks/Brandeberry girl's weekend.  For six years now, myself and Aaron's mom, Gwen, and her bestfriend Gail Brandeberry, and her daughter Taryn, have gotten together for a girl's weekend.  Usually Aaron's dad, brother and Gail's husband (and a few other men) also get together that weekend for some manly time as well.  Our past travels have included Salem (to visit a family friend), Seattle a few times, San Francisco (I was unable to make this one because Addi was just born) and Wenatchee.  A few times we've included other family members which has been a lot of fun.  Each weekend is filled with relaxation and excitement, some of which has been yummy meals, shopping, pedicures, city tours, plays, cooking, sewing, exersizing and so much more!

This last weekend was a blast as well!  It started out with me driving to Wenatchee Thursday to drop the kids off with my mom and sister (first time I was away from AJ, but I survived).  I was able to sneak in a green beer with some friends and my sisters that night in honor of St. Patty's Day.

Gwen and I headed to Snoqualmie Friday morning to Gail's house to start sewing aprons!  Gwen and Gail had already made Addi her own apron that matched mine - it was adorable.  Taryn and I sewed all day, with LOTS of help from Gwen and Gail.  We stopped long enough to eat homemade paninis :-).

Friday night we went to an amazing cooking class in Kirkland - we can now cook Thai Food!!  I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a very hands-on cooking experience with an excellent teacher and great food.

Saturday we headed to Greenlake for a nice walk, followed by a yummy lunch.  Saturday night we headed to Redmond to watch a movie - and it was not your typical movie theater!  This movie theater had recliners, food, alcohol and a waitstaff!  All you had to do was relax in the recliner with your pillow and blanket and order from the watier - and the movie was good too!

Sunday morning I met up with an old college buddy for some much needed catching up and then I hit the road to pick up my kids!  It was so nice to see them!

Overall it was a great weekend and I'm already looking forward to next year's annual get-together!  THANK YOU Gwen for yet another amazing girl's weekend!  And THANK you to my mom and sister for watching the crazy kids!
Addi's apron and my apron!
We've already tried them on and they fit perfectly!
I can't wait to bake some cupcakes in them this weekend!

Really Addi?

I hesitated posting about this particular incident, but so many people got a kick out of hearing it that I thought I would share it in the blog.

Last week at AJ's follow-up doctor's appointment (by the way, he's healthy now) Addison was hanging out with the nurse in the hallway and asked her if she could use the bathroom.  After a few minutes I stepped into the hallway to check on her and when she opened the bathroom door, she handed me a urine sample!  The nurse and doctor were standing by me and saw the whole thing - they couldn't help but laugh!  Addison has seem me give a urine sample in the past, so she when she saw the cup next to the toilet, she took full advantage.  The cup was half full and even had the lid on it - she was so proud of herself!  I, on the other hand, was embarassed and got the heck out of there!

Rolling, rolling, rolling...

We have a roller on on our hands, but we haven't seen it with our own eyes yet!  Friday night around 1:30 a.m. (so technically Saturday morning), I went to AJ's room to feed him since he was being fussy and guess what?  He had rolled over!  He normally sleeps on his stomach, but when I looked over the side of the crib, my little man was on his back smiling up at me :-).  After feeding him, I put him back in his crib, on his stomach.  At 5:00 a.m. he was ready to get up again and when I went to his crib, what do you know?  He was on his back again!

Aaron and I tried all day Saturday to get him to do it again - he came close, but didn't succeed.

It's coming soon though and I'm very excited!

Sick little babies

It's the saddest thing in the world to see my little babies so sick, but at times, it's inevitable.  Addi was recently sick with a fever and horrible cough.  The doctor put her on medicine and after two days of staying home with mom and dad (Aaron and I took turns staying home from work), she was a lot better.  We treated her and ourselves to a night out for pizza - it was amazing!

Then our poor little man got sick.  Even though AJ had been fighting a cough for a couple of weeks, he was always in such a good mood, and so I didn't really think to take him to the doctor.  Well, he had his four month check up last Wednesday and the doctor told me he had RSV - a respiratory virus and bronchitis.  I felt awful, but even the doctor couldn't believe how happy was acting.  He was smiling up at the doctor and giggling every time he'd touch him.  They gave me a nebulizer and told me to do 4 breathing treatments on AJ a day and then he also ordered a chest x-ray to see if the virus wasn't getting any worse.  There was also a second reason they ordered the x-ray - AJ has a sunken chest.  I guess this is common and he will most likely grow out of it, but for now, they are just going to watch him.  THEN I had him look at the patches of dry skin on AJ's body and he said he has excema.  Now I have to rub a cream all over his body to clear it up.

So this seemingly routine 4 month check-up turned into a scary situation with all sorts of problems!  But today is Saturday and the little man is breathing better and his dry skin is healing - things are looking up!

I did manage to get his 4 month stats though... 15.2 pounds!! Notice I only remember the weight because I was a little flustered!  When I find time, I will call the doctor's office and have them tell me all the other info.
